Dokken released their third studio album "Under Lock amp; Key" in 1985. Dokken played a very radio friendly style of melodic rock that was all the rage in the 80's."Under Lock amp; Key" is an almost essential release for fans of melodic rock from the 1980's. There really isn't any filler on this album, just songs that aren't as great as the rest. This album helped solidify Dokken as one of the top-tier rock bands from the decade, but their follow-up record put them over the top. This record has everything a good 80's rock record needs. It has catchy choruses, huge production and terrific songs throughout. It doesn't hurt as well to have some of the best musicians availible at their positions either. Most songs are winners, but "The Hunter," "In My Dreams," and "It's Not Love" are highlights.Dokken are really one of the genres best. To have no Dokken in your collection is a crime, and should be punishable by law. I'd suggest their "Back For The Attack" album to start with, but this record is good as well. Dokken's first three albums have been remastered and the sound improvement is fantastic. I'll leave the music reviews to others, this is just to let prospective buyers know that there IS a substantial upgrade in sound on the 2014 Rock Candy edition releases over previous versions which never did the music justice. A full, robust amp; vibrant sound and Lynch's guitars finally get the treatment they deserve. Still waiting for Back For The Attack to get a remaster, George's best sounds dull on current standard versions and deserve better!Absolutely killer Album and still holds up. I was probably in 6th grade when this was released and I like it just as much if not more now. Also this the remastered edition so it come with better sound....a essay and a few more photos. Even if you don’t want it at this moment order it anyways. A year from now you’ll be glad you did.As far as image goes, this was about as hair metal as Dokken ever got. The music is great on this disc, particularly "It's Not Love," which is one of the more perfect songs Dokken ever did. It all comes together on that tune. The riffs are typical George Lynch, with his characteristic alteration between clean and heavy riffing, Don Dokken's excellent lead vox, a pounding '80's rhythm section and pretty cool lyrics to boot! The rest of the album is fairly strong, but a bit uneven. "In My Dreams" has the stereotypical over-produced background vocal style of the '80's and a couple of songs like "Slippin' Away" pass through me like filler. But it's still a good listen. Like most Dokken, it's fun to hear how this four piece can sound so full and interesting with the very unorthodox playing of Lynch. Lynch gives each song a lot of breathing room and always seems to know how to riff just enough but not too much. And his solos always give you a few surprises as well.Bottom line: Their image was cliched, but their songs rise above the cliches.Although it's probably one of their most commercial albums, it still holds up as amazing. This band, and more particularly George Lynch, is the reason I started playing guitar 33 years ago. If you haven't heard this album you have probably been living under a rock since '85. Add it to your collection and ENJOY the last great decade for hard rock musicians that could actually play, and didn't sound like one another.Dokkens Under Lock and Key is a fantastic album from start to finish no fillers and my second favourite Dokken album from Back for the Attack standout tracks are Unchain the Night, Hunter, In My Dreams, Slipping Away and It's not Love highly recommended album and even better sounding on the 180 g vinyl Always a favorite album of mine and it sounds great on this vinyl reissue. Better than cd. This album takes you right back to the early-mid 80's . It has some of the best guitar work you will ever hear . George Lynch(aka: Mr. Scary ) is absolutely amazing. Editorial Reviews Digitally remastered edition of the L.A.-based Heavy Metal band's third studio album. Produced by both British studio wizard Neil Kernon (Queensryche, Kansas, Autograph) and Michael Wagener (Mötley Crüe, Extreme) the album, originally released in 1985, is generally regarded as one of their best creations, giving rise to a number of classic tracks, including 'The Hunter', 'Unchain the Night', 'It's Not Love' and the chart hit 'In My Dreams'. It was a record that promoted them to an A-grade platinum attraction and one that resulted in the sort of curb appeal shared by the likes of the Scorpions, Ratt and White Lion. 16 page full color booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork, unpublished photos and new interview with Don Dokken.
