Shop Discount Store Donner Drum Practice Pad, 12 Inch Double Sided Silent Drum Pad W Let me start off by stating that this is not a toy.I have a 5 year old who uses an extra set of drum sticks to drum on my couch, all the time. He is a normal energetic crazy 5 year old kid, except when it comes to drums. Drums are very very serious business to him. He is eerily mature about playing drums. He was born knowing the Cool Drummer Faces that every rock drummer must master. He is very into learning about the right way to drum. He watches videos of percussionists on youtube. He tries to twirl sticks in his little hands. This boy sneaks into his brother's room and tries to play his brother's drum set when his brother isn't looking. He has never mistreated a drum set, despite his young age. You get the idea.I got this as a Christmas present for him, to help him learn precision and to try to not travel all over the place while drumming. Now he can play with his older brother, who takes percussion at school and is teaching him everything. I wouldn't have bought this for my 5 year old, except for the fact that he is so serious about drums. If he weren't, this would be too nice of a gift for a kid that young. I would not hesitate to buy it again for my 10 year old, however. This is really a great practice tool!Their information is misleading, so beware!A double sided practice drum pad has a hard side and a softer side, THIS GREY PRACTICE PAD IS NOT DOUBLE SIDED. The other side jus has a rounded foam surface so the pad doesn’t move around while you’re practicing but that’s it.It is obvious that the pad it’s gonna have two sides, so why advertise that it has two sides if the other is useless for practice! Makes sense?Besides that, is a good pad so far and for the price of usd and including a pair of sticks you really can’t go wrong, specially when compared with pads sold at Guitar Center... this is a steal!Ok, I have a few points to make, but let’s start positive.1- I really like the feel of this pad, especially with a pair of heavier, hickory 5A wood tip sticks. The rebound feels great and the playing surface has held up very well so far. I’ve only had this pad for a few months or so, but for a minimum of 2 hours a day, I beat it like it owes me money. (I’ll be making today’s visit shortly... it is stubborn and hasn’t even forked over one small good faith payment).2- Silent? No... Quiet? No.... Inside voice? Well .. no.... In fact It is pretty loud. This isn’t an issue for me because I play it in a house that doe NOT share any walls with any neighbors. Also, I find the tone emitted from this pad to be rather pleasant and, frankly, I prefer to be able to hear the strokes and rhythms when playing. IF, however, you live in an apartment or town house and plan on working through some late night paradiddles..... you may find yourself gaining a lot of proficiency with your tap strokes to avoid complaints. (I play with a variety of 5A sticks. Wood tip and nylons, heavy and light weight. The pitch varies slightly between them all but unless I am intentionally working on playing softer, lighter strokes... THE PAD IS LOUD!)3- This IS a 2 sided pad... that is the very nature of a pad. You can not argue that this pad has only 1 side because, clearly, there is a top SIDE and a bottom SIDE. The problem is that this seller is intentionally being dishonest with his wording so that the buyer is under the impression that he is purchasing a practice pad that has 2 durable sides, both intended to be hit with drum sticks. Buyer will be sad to learn that there is 1 side for hitting and 1 side that has a very thin piece of material that exists to prevent the pad from sliding if set on a surface Instead of in a snare basket. If you flip this pad over and play the bottom for any length whatsoever, you’ll shred this material and ruin your 4 to 5 star SINGLE sided practice pad... at least that’s how reputable manufacturers have marketed comparable pads; "SINGLE SIDED"I would have very much preferred to review this pad in a more positive light because I truly do think the product itself is great. In fact I love practicing with it. But I won’t back a manufacturer that uses deceitful and misleading tactics to get more “keywords" in their products title. It’s a greedy and dishonest shortcut that baits for sales by presenting their product as something it is not.Advertise for the product you are actually selling OR actually make the product you clearly wish you were selling.I am a novice and this is perfect for practicing tempo and timing. I would recommend getting these for Kids who want a drum kit but you don’t want to go deaf. The sticks I got where nice and straight. They are not heavy, 5A. For the price it is very worth it.Got mine a couple of hours ago. Been smacking it around since then and within the first 20 minutes, I was asked to close the door to the room I was in because my wife could hear me lol.Rebound doesn't seem overblown, and both sides have different rebound, so if you prefer one, stick to that, I suppose. Also, of the two sides, the thinner, black side is by far the quieter.
I was surprised when I pulled it out of the box. It looks very well made. It sits quietly on the table and hit it with the sticks is very quite as well. I'm planning to learn drums so this is my first step. You can connect the pad to a tripod. As a practice pad, this isn't bad. It's on par with other similar pads. My biggest complaint is that the foam side is already divoted from using nylon tipped jazz sticks on it, much more than I believe it should. However, this doesn't affect the usability. The sticks are light, and are nice to practice with. I'd be leery to use these sticks with any authority, as I doubt they'd last for very long. I would actually prefer a heavier stick to practice with, but that's a personal preference.Excellent pad. Have used Evan's and other similar pads and this is just as good.
